Frequently Asked Questions:
  • I am allergic to latex, can I use the Envy Condom?
Vytex® NRL is a natural rubber based latex product and any latex product may cause an allergic reaction. While the Vytex NRL patented process removes much of the antigenic proteins, no studies have been done with latex allergy sufferers to confirm that by reducing the antigenic proteins which may cause an immune or allergic response to trace amounts as are in Vytex NRL that this is sufficient for all those who suffer with latex allergies. Individuals respond differently to different levels of allergens, so it is difficult to state how any specific individual will respond. If you have a serious reaction to latex, consult your healthcare professional before using this or any latex product.
  • Is Vytex® NRL a green product?
Natural Rubber Latex is the source material used to produce Vytex. It comes from the Hevea brasiliensis tree. These trees are similar to Maple trees in that they produce a commercially viable sap. A typical tree can produce latex for approximately 30 years. After this the tree is replaced and the wood used for furniture and other wood products. Vytex NRL and natural latex are all natural products from renewable resources, biodegradeable and contain no known human carcinogens.

Non-latex condoms contain either polyurethane or polyisoprene, both materials are petroleum based materials which are not considered natural or renewable materials.
  • I don't know if I am allergic to latex, how do I tell?
If you experience irritation, redness or itching after using a condom, you may be experiencing a sensitivity or allergic reaction to latex. You should consult your healthcare provider to confirm the source of the irritation, since it could be another cause requiring treatment.
  • The Envy package says that it has “less than 2μg/dm2 of antigenic proteins”, what does that mean?
That is like comparing 2 pennies to a stack of 1 million pennies. That means there is only a small amount of antigenic proteins that could cause an immune response or an allergic reaction in the Envy condom. No other latex condom can make a similar protein claim.
